PlayStation ( PS1 )

The original Playstation ( PS1 ) was a revolutionary console. It was pretty much the first console to run serious 3D games, predating the N64 by 2 years. Most other consoles that could support 3D did a pretty poor job at this point in time. Sony was the first company to get it right.

The system has a pretty interesting history. It was basically created out of spite. Sony was originally working with Nintendo to create a disk drive for their next console. Nintendo went behind their backs to work with Philips. Sony decided to create their own console to compete with Nintendo. They were incredibly successful as they released the PS1 two years before Nintendo was able to release the N64.
